The
IBA was honoured that the 2008 AGM was hosted by HE Richard O'
Brien, Patron at his residence on Thursday, 8
May.
The
meeting heard from outgoing President, Colin MacDonald &
his colleagues of the IBA's activities & growth over the
past year but the main focus was on the plans for the rest of
the year & for 2009. There was a strong interest in
the project to grow the membership in a sustainable way &
to increase the relevance of activities for members. The
imminent appointment of a dedicated resource person was
welcomed by all members as an important step forward towards a
more sustainable structure.
Special thanks were paid to the outgoing
Committee members, KB Lim, John Maguire, John Galvin, Hugh
Hoyes-Cock & David Doyle, some of whom are leaving
Singapore & others who will remain involved going forward.
There was also a welcome for the setting up of
the Centre for Irish Education & this sector, together
with the F & B, pharmaceutical, ICT & professional
services sectors will remain a key focus for the IBA.
The
incoming committee was heartened by the offer from a number of
members to support our activities over the coming year &
look forward to working with all interested individuals &
organisations, a point made by the Ambassador when he spoke of
the extraordinary talent in the Irish Community in
Singapore.
Thank you to Ambassador O' Brien for
hosting the event & to his colleagues & all IBA
members for their ongoing support.
